Life in the desert

True friendship multiplies the good in life and divides its evils. Strive to have friends, for life without friends is like life on a desert island… to find one real friend in a lifetime is good fortune; to keep him is a blessing.

Baltasar Gracian

The group of quilters that I meet with regularly have a fabric dyeing party in the summer when we can be outside, be messy, experiment and laugh, laugh, laugh!!! Anne Munoz is our chief dyeing queen and provides us with direction and advice. Last summer is did this piece by ice dyeing in a 1 gallon bag. I fell in love with the way that it turned out and couldn’t bear to cut it up into little pieces. The darker colors on the outside were at the bottom of the bag, the lighter colors at the top.

The hand dyed fabric is set off the shot cotton of a color that enhances the colors of the dyes.
The size if 51inx51in. The cactus or machine appliqued. The blooms on the cactus are put on the Shiva paint stiks. The piece is hand quilted.

  1. Beautiful colours. I’d love a blog about the ice dying process, if you ever find the time?
