Stars and Bars: With malice toward none

With the strident campaigning and the election over, I hope that we can move on as a country and do the business that needs to be done for the good of all.  I find it ironic, that while observing the bitterness of the political scene, that Abraham Lincoln is coming into focus.  I’m excited to see the new Spielberg movie, “Lincoln”.  I hope that our country is able to take some lessons from Lincoln and start working together for the good of all.

With malice toward none, with charity for all, with firmness in the right as God gives us to see the right, let us strive on to finish the work we are in, to bind up the nation’s wounds, to care for him who shall have borne the battle and for his widow and his orphan, to do all which may achieve and cherish a just and lasting peace among ourselves and with all nations.”

This is a quilt that I finished this last year.  It started because I bought yards of civil war fabric on sale.  I have wanted to do a patriotic themed quilt for awhile and this seemed like the impetus to go ahead.

Stars are featured in the upper left section and bars in the lower section.  The center features a machine appliqued eagle with flag.
